A Trip to the Pantanal, in Brazil

Imagine an area about twice the present size of England, as an African savannah at the height of summer, and as an infinite water lake, with no signs of human presence and few signs of plant life, most of the year.

Imagine a place with 650 species of birds, 260 species of fish (like catfish weighing up to 260 pounds), an unknown number of species of butterflies, and caimans, anacondas, capybaras (the largest rodent in the world), agoutis (and other rodents), tapirs, wild pigs, jaguars, pumas, anteaters, ocelots, giant otters, armadillos, several species of monkeys, including the Capuchins, and dozens of other rare animals.

This world is not fiction. It is home to the enormous concentration of animal life in America. This is called the Pantanal, and in Brazil, 1,000 miles from Sao Paulo.

With his own right, Pantanal ranks very highly in the adventure tourism sector. The concentration of animal life – especially large birds: macaws, parrots, toucans, herons, Craker, eagles, owls, oropendulas … – Is unique in the world.

But … You must also understand the nature of the Pantanal, and why it is largely unknown …

Pantanal has no shopping centers or air conditioning. It is a place of mud, most of the year. It is not necessary to visit a treat with high complaints, but some discomfort is inevitable.

The Pantanal is a place with plenty of water and mud, and many mosquitoes (mosquito protection – many of them is – important), it can travel to be difficult, and may have on horseback or trucks and jeeps are special, or by boat.

Pantanal is a place for those who love nature and are willing to make sacrifices for him at his best. Are you a bird and nature lovers, and if you like adventure travel, you’ll love the Pantanal.
